Windows 7 Home Premium turns off my display (dell 30' TFT 3007WFP) after a few minuites if the computer is inactive. If I press the internet button on my keyboard then the display comes back on.If I run a video in media player minimised on the taskbar then everything is fine.If I change to monitor to a 25' Hanns G then the monitor dims instead of going off.I am using a Dell 430 XPS with GTX470 850Watt PSU, all power management is set to max performance, with nvidia 260.89.Display works fine if I put the GTX 470 and PSU into a HP ML115 with Win7 using same video drivers.Any ideas? Any chance you could read what I typed. Both monitors work fine on a HP ML115 Computer with the same PSU and Video Card. The issue is not with the 25' Hanns G monitor but with the Dell 30' monitor.I suspect a Windows 7 Video card bug with the X48 chipset. If I run media player minimised on the taskbar then everything is fine, it is only on idle that the dell 30' monitor turns off on the XPS 430.I would like to know if there is a way to disable dimming of the monitor in Windows 7 Home premium.Maybe it is the dimming signal that is turning off the monitor.

I upgraded my Windows 8.1 computer to 10 over a month ago. Although I like Windows 10 a lot, there is a problem I've been having with the monitor not turning off automatically. The display is set to turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity, but it never does.
No matter how long I set the wait time. I set up a hot key to automatically turn the monitor off. It worked in 8.1 but in Windows 10 the monitor turns off for a half second and then turns right back on.I did not change any hardware settings when I went from 8.1 to 10.
I've tried unplugging various things connected via USB but nothing so far has solved this problem. The monitor I have is the Dell E2414Hx 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor.Any help would be appreciated guys.Edit: I wasn't sure whether to put this in the external hardware forum or here, but since the problem's only occured since the upgrade I posted it here.Edited by topper8281, 01 September 2015 - 10:26 PM. I didn't realize it before, but there were two USB game controller devices plugged into my computer. Although I did unplug one at a time, I hadn't unplugged both of them and that solved the problem.Any idea on how to make it turn off with it plugged in though? I see there is one topic on this already, but the guys advice did not fix the problem for me:'settings- system- power & sleep- Additional plan settings- change plan settings- change advanced power settings- sleep- allow wake timers- disablehad the same problem with the monitor and this fixed it for me'. I've noticed that if you don't change ALL the Power plans to the SAME setting you really want, the power plan you've selected, won't work.
So craft the power setting you want, then duplicate it to ALL the possible plans, and be sure to use the ADVANCED settings and also to make visible the ones otherwise 'unavailable' in that dialogue box for Advanced Settings. You've got to change all the Advanced Power Plan settings, not just one of them.Windows Power Settings have never worked properly until they are all the same. XP has the same problem, and so does Windows 7. So it's a bug that persists even in 10.
@brainout I don't specifically remember needing to have non selected power plans have the same settings in my previous Windows OS's. But regardless, having the settings the same did not fix this problem for me in Windows 10.@PeterQ the problem with this is that I basically want to be able to wake the computer from USB controller. My motherboard doesn't seem to be able to allow this to happen from regular sleep mode, and logging out ends the program I need for the controller. I have noticed that the remote support program Teamviewer is able to blank out the monitor so that it basically appears as being turned off. At this point I'm sort of looking for a program that can do something like this on command.Edited by topper8281, 05 September 2015 - 05:48 PM.
Until today my monitors were turning off at the designated time through the Power options. I've had all the current drivers installed since my Thursday installation and haven't made any changes since then. The only thing I have done is installed Live Messenger Plus! And Microsoft ran a critical update yesterday and today. I've completely quit out of messenger and still my monitors stay on.
So it's apparently not the Live Messenger Plus! I'm at a loss. Could somebody offer up a possible solution? Hi kwhitvan,Please first go to Power Options and check the 'Turn off the display' time is set correctly. Also, a possible issue is the sensitivity of some mice, especially gamer ones.Since the issue occurred recently, you can restore the system to the date before the issue first occurred using System Restore and see if the issue can be resolved. If the issue persists, first uninstall all unnecessary devices and see if the issue can be resolved.
Also, test in. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.Besides, please use Powercfg command to check this issue. To do that, refer to the steps below:1. Click the Start Button, type 'cmd' (without quotation marks), right click on the 'Cmd.exe' in the search result list and select 'Run as administrator'.2. Type 'powercfg -devicequery wakearmed' (without quotation marks) in the open window and press Enter Key.3. Genuine leather piano bench. Linda, Thanks for the quick response, but I may have resolved the issue outside of your above suggestions. A friend of mine mentioned he sometimes see's the same kind of issues from spyware. I had not installed a spyware blocker yet and after doing so ran a quick check on the machine. Switched my 'Turn off display' to 1 min and waited. The issues appears to be resolved but I would like to keep the thread open for now and monitor it. Thanks again for your help, but it looks like it may have just been something else causing the issue.
I tried the steps you listed above. The first steps didn't resolve the issue so I tried the powercfg. It wouldn't let me disable the wake device so I thought I would look at the available sleep states.

For help C:UsersMr. Whitakerpowercfg -A The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S1 S3 ) Hibernate Hybrid Sleep The following sleep states are not available on this system: Standby (S2) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Whitaker I can and have always been able to put the computer to sleep manually, but apparently the power settings are no longer working. I've no Power Setting issues listed in my events viewer either. I did try updating to some beta drivers for my video card, since installing the previous version to the current driver didn't resolve my issue either.
I'm stumped and need some other suggestions for troubleshooting this issue. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Oh, on a side note I'm unsure as to why my Wireless Explorer Mouse (Bluetrack Model 1362) came with a Dual receiver and was wondering if this could be an added issue or maybe even related? Hi kwhitvan,Does the issue occur after performing System Restore? If so, what about Clean Boot mode?If the issue persists, please go to Start - Control Panel - Power Options - Change plan settings - Restore default settings for this plan. What is the result? Also, you can manually disable the keyboard from waking up the machine by performing the steps below:1.

In simple terms, the term Hardware Acceleration means using computer’s hardware for performing a certain task and function faster than would be possible using a software. This also allows for smooth rendering of graphics. In most processors, instructions are executed sequentially, i.e., one by one, but you can perform them faster if you modify the same process a bit using some technique. The idea is to move all graphics and text rendering from the Central Processing Unit to the Graphics Processing Unit. The idea is to speed up graphics performance and the rendering by moving it from the CPU to the GPU, thereby getting better performance.Sometimes loosely called as graphics accelerators or floating-point accelerators, hardware accelerators can improve the performance of an application significantly. The term Hardware Accelerator has now been loosely replaced by more common and less descriptive terms such as graphics cards and video cards. While the settings are best left at their default values in Windows, you can if you wish to, turn off or disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration or reduce Hardware Acceleration. Turning off the Hardware Acceleration completely will run the application in software rendering mode’. Disable Hardware AccelerationThe Hardware Acceleration tab in Windows allows you to specify the performance of the graphics hardware present on your PC.
To disable or reduce Hardware Acceleration in Windows 10/8/7, first, right-click on the Desktop and from the context menu, choose the Personalization option. Then, select Display from the left panel of the window and click on ‘Change display settings’.Next, click on ‘Advanced settings’.This will open the Graphics Properties box. Now open ‘Troubleshoot’ tab. If your current display driver does not allow you to change the settings, you will see the Change settings button grayed out, and you will not be able to change the settings. If your current display driver allows you to change the settings, you will be able to see the Change settings button. Click on it.Now, the Display Adapter Troubleshooter will appear on your computer screen. Move the pointer to the extreme left to disable or reduce the hardware acceleration and click on OK. If you are having problems with your graphics hardware, these settings can help you troubleshoot display-related problems. That’s it!This is how you can disable or change the level of hardware acceleration in Windows 10/8/7.UPDATE: Things appear to have chnaged in Windows 10 1803 and later.
Right-click on the desktop, select Display settings. The Display Settings will open. Scroll down a bit and you will see Advanced display settings.Click on Display adapter properties link. This will open your Monitor and Graphics Properties box. You can then follow the latter part of the instructions given above via its Troubleshoot tab. Disable hardware acceleration button greyed outIf you find that the option is grayed out, check if your hardware permits it and ensure that you have updated drivers. You may also see if DWORD DisableHWAcceleration exists in the following registry key and that it has a value 0. HKEYCURRENTUSERSOFTWAREMicrosoftAvalon.GraphicsIf it does not exist, DisableHWAcceleration. A value of 1 disables hardware acceleration.
Windows 7 Display Not Turning Off Screen
A value of 0 enables hardware acceleration, provided the system meets hardware acceleration requirements. You can use the above Registry method to disable hardware acceleration in Windows 10. The new settings could not be saved to registryIf you receive an Unexpected error, The new settings could not be saved to registry message box; then you may try the following:.
